Dr. Eckhart’s Expertise
James Eckhart has offered orthodontic treatment in the South Bay of Los Angeles County since 1975. He grew up in Torrance, California, and was active in the Boy Scouts, attaining the Eagle Scout award at age 14.
He graduated 8th in his class from South Torrance High School, having played football and having been class vice president. He attended Stanford University on a scholarship, and was awarded the pre-dentistry award by El Camino College along with an Associate of Arts degree.
He attained his dentist degree at USC where he was class president and valedictorian, and obtained his certificate in orthodontics from the University of California at San Francisco. He obtained a credential in dental sleep medicine from the Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, and is very experienced in treating CPAP-intolerant individuals with snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.
He has lectured and published on the subjects of overbite correction and treating snoring, and his patented overbite corrector, the MARA (mandibular anterior repositioning appliance), is already the second largest selling such device in the United States since being introduced in 1996. Dr. Eckhart is the Elite Provider of the MARA appliance and is also an Invisalign Elite Premier Provider.
He enjoys a close relationship with orthodontic supply companies, testing recent innovations whenever available while delivering the best treatment possible to his expanding practice.
Jim Eckhart and his wife, Carlene, have been married since 1971. They have three grown children and two grandchildren. Dr. Eckhart participates in various civic groups and is active in his church. He enjoys running and book collecting, especially biographies of world leaders, scientists and inventors.
